Many adults live for years with symptoms of ADHD without recognising the cause. Difficulties with attention, organisation, emotional regulation or impulsivity can affect work, study, relationships, finances and overall wellbeing. Our Adult ADHD service provides comprehensive assessment and ongoing management in a supportive, evidence-based environment.
Our Approach
ADHD rarely exists in isolation.
Many adults also experience anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, obesity, binge eating, cardiometabolic disease or other health conditions that may contribute to, or mimic, ADHD symptoms.
Our goal is to understand the whole person, not just determine whether ADHD is present.
Assessment follows current Australian guidelines and includes consideration of other medical and mental health conditions that may influence diagnosis and treatment.
Who May Benefit?
This service may be suitable for adults who:
• Suspect they may have ADHD
• Have longstanding difficulties with attention, focus or organisation
• Experience executive functioning challenges affecting work or study
• Have impulsivity or emotional regulation difficulties
This service is only for new patients that have not been previously diagnosed with ADHD.
What to Expect
Screening Appointment
Each client will need to attend a screening consultation with Dr Mark Mellor to ensure their presentation is within the scope of practice mandated for GP-led ADHD assessment and management.
If the client is considered to have a presentation outside of WA GP scope of practice, they will be required to see their regular GP to arrange referral to a psychiatrist.
Prior to your screening appointment you will receive an email with an intake form that includes the DASS 21 and ASRS questionnaires. Please ensure this has been completed prior to your appointment.
Initial ADHD Assessment
Before Your Appointment
To ensure your assessment is as comprehensive as possible, you will required to provide some supporting information to us prior to your consultation. The following items are required to be provided prior to your appointment:
• Patient health summary from your regular GP
• 2 copies of the ASRS-O, completed by a parent or relative (provided in screening appointment)
• Copies of school reports (if available)

Your initial consultation is a comprehensive 60-minute assessment and includes:
• Detailed history
• Review of childhood symptoms
• Medical and mental health assessment
• Review of current medications
• Screening for alternative or co-existing diagnoses
• Assessment of cardiovascular and physical health relevant to treatment
• Discussion of diagnosis and treatment options
• Written management plan where appropriate
Completion of the assessment does not guarantee an ADHD diagnosis or the prescription of medication.
Follow-Up Appointments
Follow-up appointments may include:
• Review of assessment findings
• Medication initiation (where clinically appropriate)
• Dose titration and monitoring
• Review of treatment effectiveness
• Monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate and side effects
• Ongoing behavioural and lifestyle management
• Communication with your regular GP and other healthcare providers where appropriate
Additional Costs
Some patients may require:
• Pathology tests
• ECG
• Specialist reports
• Psychological assessment
• Psychiatrist assessment
• Other investigations
These services may attract additional fees payable directly to the provider.
Treatment Options
Where appropriate, treatment may include:
• Education about ADHD
• Lifestyle strategies
• Behavioural and organisational approaches
• Medication discussion and prescribing where clinically appropriate
• Ongoing monitoring and medication reviews
• Shared care with your regular GP and other healthcare professionals
Treatment is individualised and based on current evidence and your personal goals.
Medication Prescribing
Medication is not prescribed automatically following an ADHD assessment.
A diagnosis does not necessarily mean medication is appropriate.
Medication will only be recommended when:
• Diagnostic criteria are met
• It is clinically appropriate
• The expected benefits outweigh potential risks
• Appropriate monitoring can be provided
Some patients will benefit from non-medication strategies alone or alongside medication.

When a Psychiatrist Referral May Be Required
Our aim is to provide safe, high-quality assessment and management within the scope of General Practice.
Some patients require assessment by a psychiatrist or another specialist before diagnosis or treatment can proceed.
A referral to a psychiatrist or other appropriate specialist may be recommended if:
• The diagnosis is uncertain or particularly complex
• Symptoms are outside of WA GP scope of practice
• Specialist investigation or management is required
Examples include:
• Level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Bipolar disorder
• Patients using medicinal cannabis
• History of substance use disorder
• Other complex psychiatric or neurodevelopmental presentations where specialist assessment is indicated
If a specialist referral is recommended, we will explain the reasons and advise you to see your regular GP for this to be arranged.
Cancellation Policy
Appointments are reserved exclusively for you.
• Cancellations with more than 24 hours' notice: No fee.
• Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice or failure to attend: Cancellation fee equivalent to 40% of the total appointment fee.
Payment
A booking fee of 40% of the total appointment fee is taken to secure your appointment, payable at the time of making your appointment. Booking fees are reimbursed in line with the cancellation policy.
Full payment is required on the day of your appointment.
Where eligible, your Medicare rebate will be processed electronically following your consultation.
